How the Navy Won the War 1914-1918 by Jim Ring (.ePUB)
š® How the Navy Won the War 1914-1918 by Jim Ring (.ePUB) Verdun, the Somme, Tannenberg and Passchendaele. These epics of destruction and futility are such bywords for the First World War that Jutland apart we forget the role played by sea power in the war to end war. The great global conflict is too often narrowed to the fields of Flanders and the plains of Picardy. Now, award-winning biographer and naval historian Jim Ring has revisited the story to redress the balance. He emphasises how Great Britain, the great Amphibian in Churchill s words, was able to move its army anywhere in the world. The Navy s very existence deterred any attempt at invasion, and its great ships kept the German High Sea fleet at bay; lastly, the Navy gradually starved the Kaiser s nation of war materiel and food. Choosing fourteen turning-points of the war, he explores the relative contributions made by land and sea power to the eventual outcome of the conflict in 1918. For example, the abandonment of the Imperial German Navy s ambition for a decisive naval surface battle was at least as important as Jutland itself, while Lloyd George s imposition of the convoy system on, it must be said, a reluctant Admiralty turned the battle against the U-boats; the mine and the submarine altered the course of war as much or more so than the tank. The book is also a study of character as well as of action, of decision-making as much as the sweep of battle, and his critique of the warlords of both the Entente and the Central Powers of Ludendorff and Churchill, of Haig, Kitchener and Foch, of Fisher, Jellicoe, Beatty and Scheer is refreshing, his conclusions surprising. The Great War was fought on land but won at sea. Not so, says Ring, but much closer to the truth than we tend to believe. A century after the catastrophic events of the Great War, in the midst of a time at which the country is once again pondering its identity, it is worth reciting the words of John Keegan: No Briton of my generation, raised on food fought through the U-boat packs in the battle of the Atlantic can ever ignore the narrowness of the margin by which sea power separates survival from starvation in the islands he inhabits. The Royal Navy was key to the survival of Great Britain and to eventual victory in 1918. Written with passion and verve, this book offers a very different way of looking at the conflict if you think you understand the Great War, think again. ā»ļø Book's Info: Author Jim Ring Size 5MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB š„ Download Links: https://uploda.sh/Qqr6WoOonmAS https://devuploads.com/7uewy6s3htp2

From Weimar to Hitler 1932-1934 by Hermann Beck (.ePUB)
š® From Weimar to Hitler 1932-1934 by Hermann Beck (.ePUB) Though often depicted as a rapid political transformation, the Nazi seizure of power was in fact a process that extended from the appointment of the Papen cabinet in the early summer of 1932 through the Rƶhm blood purge two years later. Across fourteen rigorous and carefully researched chapters, From Weimar to Hitler offers a compelling collective investigation of this critical period in modern German history. Each case study presents new empirical research on the crisis of Weimar democracy, the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship, and Hitlerās consolidation of power. Together, they provide multiple perspectives on the extent to which the triumph of Nazism was historically predetermined or the product of human miscalculation and intent. ā»ļø Book's Info: Author Hermann Beck Size 1.1MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB š„ Download Links: https://uploda.sh/QGftBZeiG5qy https://devuploads.com/d5542er1523z

Ivan is her prisoner. Caught in the crossfire of war, they must choose: loyalty or love. The Balkans, 1383 A sudden conflict between Serbs and Greeks has forced Ivan to join his brother and fight with the Serbian army. On the battlefield, Ivan is wounded and captured by the hostile Greeks, becoming a hostage in a deadly bid for power. Helena, a Greek midwife, is tasked to care for Ivan, a request that will test not only her healing abilities but also her loyalty. Though war has made her reluctant patient an enemy, she can't help but forge a connection with him, yet falling in love with him could turn her world upside down and brand her a traitor. As the Ottoman Empire extends its grip into the Balkans, events beyond their control force Ivan and Helena to choose between loyalty to their families and people or following the longings of their hearts. š„ Download Links: https://uploda.sh/zRIucSPDNtgg https://devuploads.com/q9gzytf32ugj

At first glance, it seems he's just an old man who needs to get to his son's remote cabin in the woods. But the cabin holds more secrets than Fergus McNab will admit, and it isn't until Charlie returns to Albuquerque that she discovers they may have just aided and abetted a criminal who has escaped the law back home. The secrets get twistier, the more she looks into the ten-year-old case where Rory McNab, facing a life in prison, seemed to vanish from the reach of the law. Just as Charlie is thinking she should report McNab's whereabouts, there's a murder that seems to rock the foundation of the old case. And Charlie is in handcuffs, caught in the middle. #18.5 - Old Bones Can Be Murder#18.5 - Old Bones Can Be Murder A cryptic message in a fortune cookie sends Charlie again to England, to visit her favorite aunt. The police are called to a more urgent case, so Charlie begins sleuthing around on a cold-case crime website, only to discover Aunt Louisa was one of those questioned when the victim disappeared. Can she save her aunt from arrest, or will the real killer come after them both? The problem for young Cassie is that the grandmother who has raised her is now dying and Cassie's life is about to be upended. All that's holding her together is the belief that her mom is out there somewhere. Meanwhile, Charlie's neighbor Elsa may have a boyfriend! Or not. Iris, a friend from her church is trying to set her up with a buddy of the new hunk she's dating. But Charlie smells scam all over this deal. Now she just has to keep an eye on both Elsa and her friend ... at the same time she's on the clock with her new missing persons case. As she and Elsa begin tracking the missing money, it becomes obvious that the shop is a little goldmine and there are a number of people who could easily be after the money. She's narrowing down the suspects, but when the person who is tops on her list suddenly and mysteriously dies, well it looks there's a lot more going on in the little shop than anyone ever guessed. Now Charlie has to face down both a thief and a killer. #23 - Deceptions Can Be Murder#23 - Deceptions Can Be Murder Charlie and Drake attend a gala event for the helicopter industry, where an old friend of Drake's presents Charlie with a mystery to solve. When the van is found in an empty field near the small town of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, it would seem the case is closed. But rather than solving the mystery, the questions only become more complex. The leads take Charlie across the state, and she has no way of knowing that several lives will hang in the balance before she figures out this one. š„ Download Links: https://uploda.sh/nXEi93tR7GiF https://devuploads.com/sj3kn5m3mqkx

The Human Shutter by Robert L. Bowen (.ePUB)
š® The Human Shutter by Robert L. Bowen (.ePUB) This transdisciplinary study offers a fresh perspective on the intersections of photography, cinema, and visual perception, making it an essential addition to collections in art history, film studies, and photography. Robert L. Bowen delves into the complex relationship between art, binocular vision, space, and time across both early and modern histories of photography. Central to Bowenās analysis is the concept of "the human shutter," a metaphor for binocular rivalry, which he interprets as a form of proto-cinemaālinking early photographic processes with the evolution of cinematic temporality. The book provides a rich examination of the near-simultaneous emergence of still, moving, and stereoscopic depth media, while challenging the gradualist view of visual technologies. Through a preliminary taxonomy of rare stereoviews, Bowen draws connections between experimental film, painting, philosophy, and perception theory, opening new avenues for understanding the history of visual media. Additionally, Bowen traces the fascinating journey of early pioneers like Antoine Claudet and Giorgio Sommer, whose work in motion and binocular vision plays a pivotal role in rethinking the origins of photographic cinema. Bowen bridges this history with contemporary innovations, including the dissolution of time in photography with the advent of generative AI. ā»ļø Book's Info: Author Robert L. The Lost Queen by Sophie Shorland (.PDF)
š® The Lost Queen by Sophie Shorland (.PDF) *A Smithsonian Best History Book of 2024* An enthralling and vivid portrait of Queen Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II, that reveals her forgotten place in history. A long-overlooked figure in history, Catherine has a crucial place in the history of the British Empire: she may have failed to produce an heir to the throne, but her marriage to Charles in 1662 marked a key turning point in Britainās imperial ascendancy, for part of her dowry was Bombay, Britainās first territory of the Indian subcontinent. Catherine also was highly influential in the worlds of fashion, Baroque art and music, and food and culture. She popularized tea drinking, bringing Englandās national drink into fashion for the first time. Her life was at the nexus of Old and New Worlds, war and exploration, frivolity, and scientific inquiry. Noteworthy in its scope and approach to sources, The Lost Queen combines personal and political accounts, offering a lively portrait of Catherineās life, and the wider politics and explorations of her time. ā»ļø Book's Info: Author Sophie Shorland Size 28MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type PDF š„ Download Links: https://uploda.sh/uYM8cWQ2M7XY https://devuploads.com/g4s07xvqn1z7
