Journey to St Patrick’s Purgatory by Ramon de Perellós (.PDF)
📮 Journey to St Patrick’s Purgatory by Ramon de Perellós (.PDF) In autumn 1397, Viscount Ramon de Perellós, a Catalan nobleman, soldier and diplomat, left the papal palace in Avignon to travel to St Patrick's Purgatory in Donegal, in the northwest of Ireland. St Patrick's Purgatory, an underground cavern on Station Island in Lough Derg, was famous throughout Europe as a gateway to the next world, and the Viscount wanted to ascertain if the soul of his recently deceased friend and master, King John I of Aragon, was, if not in Heaven, then at least in Purgatory. Ramon spent twenty-four hours in the cavern, where he claimed to have travelled through the nine fields of Purgatory, accompanied by demons, before entering the Earthly Paradise and catching a glimpse of Heaven. This book provides a richly annotated translation of Ramon's account of his journeys, both earthly and spiritual. An extensive introduction sets his Viatge al Purgatori in context, examining Ramon's life, the factors that motivated the trip, the history of St Patrick's Purgatory, the literary influences on the account, its historicity, its afterlife and its textual history. The Viatge notably provides important first-hand observations on Gaelic society and customs, by a cosmopolitan traveller with a keen eye for detail, and went on indirectly to inspire Lope de Vega's El mayor prodigio o El purgatorio en vida, and Calderón de la Barca's (1600-1681) El purgatorio de San Patricio. Part travelogue, part vision literature, with aspects of hagiography, homily, autobiography, chivalric romance and anthropological essay, the text is a fascinating and entertaining window into a medieval Catalan nobleman's world view. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Ramon De Perellós Size 1.1MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/rRYrEnswhdf4 https://devuploads.com/a1yk4m6mtc38

When the Iron Bird Flies by Jianglin Li (.ePUB)
📮 When the Iron Bird Flies by Jianglin Li (.ePUB) An untold story that reshapes our understanding of Chinese and Tibetan history From 1956 to 1962, devastating military conflicts took place in China's southwestern and northwestern regions. Official record at the time scarcely made mention of the campaign, and in the years since only lukewarm acknowledgment of the violence has surfaced. When the Iron Bird Flies, by Jianglin Li, breaks this decades long silence to reveal for the first time a comprehensive and explosive picture of the six years that would prove definitive in modern Tibetan and Chinese history. The CCP referred to the campaign as "suppressing the Tibetan rebellion." It would lead to the 14th Dalai Lama's exile in India, as well as the Tibetan diaspora in 1959, though the battles lasted three additional years after these events. Featuring key figures in modern Chinese history, the battles waged in this period covered a vast geographical region. This book offers a portrait of chaos, deception, heroism, and massive loss. Beyond the significant death toll across the Tibetan regions, the war also destroyed most Tibetan monasteries in a concerted effort to eradicate local religion and scholarship. Despite being considered a military success, to this day, the operations in the agricultural regions remain unknown. As large numbers of Tibetans have self-immolated in recent years to protest Chinese occupation, Li shows that the largest number of cases occurred in the sites most heavily affected by this hidden war. She argues persuasively that the events described in this book will shed more light on our current moment, and will help us understand the unrelenting struggle of the Tibetan people for their freedom. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Jianglin Li Size 17.9MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/6978Q4476meZ https://devuploads.com/kh0dj6h7rqxf

Darkness Falling by Peter Walther (.ePUB)
📮 Darkness Falling by Peter Walther (.ePUB) An enthralling narrative history of Weimar Berlin in the three years before the Nazi takeover and a dramatic account of Germany's slide from parliamentary democracy to dictatorship. Combining meticulously researched historical writing on the one hand with gripping storytelling on the other, Peter Walther examines the mounting crisis during the dying years of the Weimar Republic through the prism of nine principal protagonists, whose lives are profiled deftly and in fascinating detail; they include leading Weimar politicians of the right, left, and center and prominent emigre's resident in this most cosmopolitan of capital cities. The louche and febrile nightlife of early 1930s Berlin – "a playground for charlatans and prophets, madmen and crooks" – is memorably and atmospherically evoked. Peter Walther pulls together the threads of these nine lives to chart the demise of German parliamentary democracy and the rise of National Socialist tyranny, the story ending with the terrifying "Finale furioso" of Hitler's seizure of power in January 1933. Along the way, we gain remarkable insights into the machinations in the corridors of power to try to keep the 'Bohemian corporal' from the chancellorship and the venality of the Nazi elite and its fellow travelers from the demi-monde of early 1930s Berlin. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Peter Walther Size 5.1MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/xDaP0cMrfxId https://devuploads.com/i75unsuv50bz

Pride and Fall: The British Army by Sergio Miller (.ePUB)
📮 Pride and Fall: The British Army by Sergio Miller (.ePUB) A detailed new account of the British military campaign in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014, based on the experiences of those who served. On 11 September 2001 19 al-Qaeda-inspired jihadists hijacked four aircraft and mounted the deadliest terrorist attack in history. The outrage triggered a chain of events that saw British forces drawn into a lengthy military campaign against a fierce insurgency in Afghanistan. In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, NATO invoked Article 5 of the Washington Treaty that obligated military assistance to the United States. The British government supported the initial US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, and subsequently committed troops to Kabul and northern Afghanistan from 2002 onwards. However, in January 2006, following NATO's expansion southwards, Britain committed a battlegroup from the Parachute Regiment to Helmand Province in what became known as Operation Herrick, with Defence Secretary John Reid stating he 'would be perfectly happy to leave in three years and without firing one shot'. The reality was very different. From 2006 to 2014, a succession of British task forces rotated through Helmand and fought against an implacable enemy. When they finally withdrew in 2014, British forces had suffered losses of more than 450 killed and 2,000 wounded. The Taliban were not defeated and would grow stronger. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Sergio Miller Size 8MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/hKFa5iu6WV7z https://devuploads.com/xw1ppq4qjz4s

India's Near East: A New History by Avinash Paliwal (.ePUB)
📮 India's Near East: A New History by Avinash Paliwal (.ePUB) India's near east encompasses Bangladesh, Myanmar and the Indian states of the 'Northeast'—Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. Celebrated as a theatre of geo-economic connectivity typified by India's 'Act East' policy, the region is key not only to India's great-power rivalry with China, which first boiled over in the 1962 war, but to the idea(s) of India itself. It is also one of the most intricately partitioned lands anywhere on Earth. Rent by communal and class violence, the region has birthed extreme forms of religious and ethnic nationalisms and communist movements. The Indian state's survival instinct and pursuit of regional hegemony have only accentuated such extremes. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Avinash Paliwal Size 6MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/d6FAAcbXsXq4 https://devuploads.com/w5rgqri39vib

Lost Souls: Soviet Displaced Persons by Sheila Fitzpatrick (.ePUB)
📮 Lost Souls: Soviet Displaced Persons by Sheila Fitzpatrick (.ePUB) A vivid history of how Cold War politics helped solve one of the twentieth century's biggest refugee crises When World War II ended, about one million people whom the Soviet Union claimed as its citizens were outside the borders of the USSR, mostly in the Western-occupied zones of Germany and Austria. These "displaced persons," or DPs—Russians, prewar Soviet citizens, and people from West Ukraine and the Baltic states forcibly incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1939—refused to repatriate to the Soviet Union despite its demands. Thus began one of the first big conflicts of the Cold War. In Lost Souls, Sheila Fitzpatrick draws on new archival research, including Soviet interviews with hundreds of DPs, to offer a vivid account of this crisis, from the competitive maneuverings of politicians and diplomats to the everyday lives of DPs. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Sheila Fitzpatrick Size 4MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/0Dq68vLLG4pP https://devuploads.com/iz415wq0bont

City of Blows by Tim Blake Nelson (.ePUB)
📮 City of Blows by Tim Blake Nelson (.ePUB) Tim Blake Nelson’s debut novel is an epic group portrait of four men grappling for control of a script in a radically changing Hollywood, or theCity of Blows. It’s early 2020, and legendary producer Jacob Rosenthal is eager to make his next film, Coal, adapted from the bestselling novel by the celebrated writer Rex Patterson. The project—which takes on the controversial topic of race in America—is Jacob’s envisioned magnum opus, and likely his swan song. He selects David Levit to direct, a major opportunity for the classically trained actor/director whose own films, while garnering critical acclaim, have not resulted in box office success. But the announcement of David’s hiring doesn’t sit well with a producer from David’s past, Brad Shlansky, who channels the last remaining vestiges of his creativity into a revenge plot that could very well scupper the making of Coal, and ruin the lives of its producer and director in the process. A sprawling, character-driven depiction of the modern film industry, City of Blows reaches back decades to the formative experiences of each of the novel’s central figures to explore what first motivated them to become involved in the quixotic and often venal world of movie-making. Driven by their diverse backgrounds, each must navigate the same huckstering circus that puts films on screen. From the start, Tim Blake Nelson’s sharp and unsparing voice holds a mirror up to America itself, using Hollywood to investigate the cultural and economic fault lines that have come to dominate and confound us all. You will find yourself unable to turn away from the ruthlessness and despair, the hubris and sheer evil, as City of Blows accelerates to its unimaginable yet inevitable crescendo. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Tim Blake Nelson Size 2.09MB Category Fiction, General, Historical, Literary File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/v4CWcpeBlyPN https://devuploads.com/w8hg04zdbzn8

Bland Fanatics: Liberals, Race, and Empire by Pankaj Mishra (.ePUB)
📮 Bland Fanatics: Liberals, Race, and Empire by Pankaj Mishra (.ePUB) A wide-ranging, controversial collection of critical essays on the political mania plaguing the West by one of the most important public intellectuals of our time. In America and in England, faltering economies at home and failed wars abroad have generated a political and intellectual hysteria. It is a derangement manifested in a number of ways: nostalgia for imperialism, xenophobic paranoia, and denunciations of an allegedly intolerant left. These symptoms can be found even among the most informed of Anglo-America. In Bland Fanatics, Pankaj Mishra examines the politics and culture of this hysteria, challenging the dominant establishment discourses of our times. In essays that grapple with the meaning and content of Anglo-American liberalism and its relations with colonialism, the global South, Islam, and "humanitarian" war, Mishra confronts writers such as Jordan Peterson, Niall Ferguson, and Salman Rushdie. He describes the doubling down of an intelligentsia against a background of weakening Anglo-American hegemony, and he explores the commitments of Ta-Nehisi Coates and the ideological determinations of The Economist. These essays provide a vantage point from which to understand the current crisis and its deep origins. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Pankaj Mishra Size 1MB Category Non-Fiction > Educational File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/xBISEiWPS0ZV https://devuploads.com/zx4s0m7gzzh1

UFOs: Government Officials Go On the Record by Leslie Kean (.ePUB)
📮 UFOs: Government Officials Go On the Record by Leslie Kean (.ePUB) An Air Force major is ordered to approach a brilliant UFO in his Phantom jet over Tehran. He repeatedly attempts to engage and fire on unusual objects heading right toward his aircraft, but his missile control is locked and disabled. Witnessed from the ground, this dogfight becomes the subject of a secret report by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. In Belgium, an Air Force colonel investigates a series of widespread sightings of unidentified triangular objects, and he sends F-16s to attempt a closer look. Many hundreds of eyewitnesses, including on-duty police officers, file reports, and a spectacular photograph of an unidentifiable craft is retrieved and analyzed. Here at home, a retired chief of the FAA's Accidents and Investigations Division reveals the agency's response to a thirty-minute encounter between an aircraft and a gigantic UFO over Alaska, which occurred during his watch and is documented on radar. Now all three of these distinguished men have written breathtaking, firsthand accounts about these extraordinary incidents. They are joined by Air Force generals and a host of high-level sources—including Fife Symington III, former governor of Arizona, and Nick Pope, former head of the British Defence Ministry's UFO Investigative Unit—who have agreed to write their own detailed, personal stories about UFO encounters and investigations for the first time. No one yet knows what these objects are, even though they affect aviation safety and possibly national security. The phenomenon has been officially acknowledged by numerous foreign governments. For these reasons and many others, Kean concludes that the UFO problem must be more widely recognized and ultimately solved through an unbiased scientific investigation. The material presented throughout this landmark book is sobering, unflinching, and undeniably awe-inspiring, and moves us toward a goal of properly addressing this worldwide mystery. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Leslie Kean Size 1MB Category Non-Fiction > Faith, Beliefs & Philosophy File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/Fx0bPNuezych https://devuploads.com/r6t6faxg8rl9

It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism by Bernie Sanders (.ePUB)
📮 It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism by Bernie Sanders (.ePUB) A progressive takedown of the uber-capitalist status quo that has enriched millionaires and billionaires at the expense of the working class, and a blueprint for what transformational change would actually look like It’s OK to be angry about capitalism. Reflecting on our turbulent times, Senator Bernie Sanders takes on the billionaire class and speaks blunt truths about our country’s failure to address the destructive nature of a system that is fueled by uncontrolled greed and rigidly committed to prioritizing corporate profits over the needs of ordinary Americans. Sanders argues that unfettered capitalism is to blame for an unprecedented level of income and wealth inequality, is undermining our democracy, and is destroying our planet. How can we accept an economic order that allows three billionaires to control more wealth than the bottom half of our society? How can we accept a political system that allows the super rich to buy elections and politicians? How can we accept an energy system that rewards the fossil fuel corporations causing the climate crisis? Sanders believes that, in the face of these overwhelming challenges, the American people must ask tough questions about the systems that have failed us and demand fundamental economic and political change. This is where the path forward begins. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Bernie Sanders Size 1MB Category Non-Fiction > Educational File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/YWUuUU5PO92H https://devuploads.com/4lfradfle2ot
