Who Cooked Adam Smith's Dinner? by Katrine Marcal (.ePUB)
📮 Who Cooked Adam Smith's Dinner? by Katrine Marcal (.ePUB) It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we can expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest When Adam Smith wrote that all our actions stem from self-interest and the world turns because of financial gain he brought to life 'economic man'. Selfish and cynical, economic man has dominated our thinking ever since and his influence has spread from the market to how we shop, work and date. But every night Adam Smith's mother served him his dinner, not out of self-interest but out of love. Today, our economics focuses on self-interest and excludes all other motivations. It disregards the unpaid work of mothering, caring, cleaning and cooking. It insists that if women are paid less, then that's because their labour is worth less - how could it be otherwise? Economics has told us a story about how the world works and we have swallowed it, hook, line and sinker. Now it's time to change the story. In this courageous look at the mess we're in, Katrine Marcal tackles the biggest myth of our time and invites us to kick out economic man once and for all. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Katrine Marcal Size 213KB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/hbDPuYHTagPc https://devuploads.com/ifq659w5lvow

Unboxing Japanese Videogames by Martin Roth (.PDF)
📮 Unboxing Japanese Videogames by Martin Roth (.PDF) A new perspective on the spatial complexity and plurality of Japanese videogames. Unboxing Japanese Videogames uncovers the complex and plural spatialities of commercial videogames published in Japan between 1985 and 2015. Rejecting the “boxing” inherent in the phrase “Japanese videogames,” Martin Roth explores a series of spatialities that unfold in videogame production and distribution. The book develops a notion of spatialization that is applied in the analysis of contents or genre distributions in Japan, the US, the UK, Germany, and France, the distribution of videogame works across different important markets, the geography of actors involved in videogame production and their gradual spatialization over time, and the functional spatialization of game production across a diverse range of platforms. This book is the first English-language study to provide an overview of the subject and also the first to explore the spatial history of FromSoftware games. It stands out because it does so quantitatively, offering a macro-perspective on the field of commercial videogames instead of relying on sales statistics or case studies. In addition to a wide range of related scholarship in English, the book engages actively with scholarship and other relevant resources in Japanese. Over thirty visualizations make the findings of the book tangible and invite the reader to explore the spatial complexity of commercial videogames further. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Martin Roth Size 24MB Category Non-Fiction > General File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/2373NUprL7Eg https://devuploads.com/vc95oosm9gcl

The German Navy began to develop its H-class designs, initially an improved Bismarck-class which became more fantastical, culminating in the 141,500-ton, 20in-gun H-44. The Japanese A-150 was based on the Yamato-class but with 20.1in guns, while the 15 ships planned for the USSR's Sovetsky Soyuz-class would have rivalled the Montanas in size. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Mark Stille Size 7MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/GjeD8mRfTTRf https://devuploads.com/ytyk2etm6omn

The Glory of Van Gogh by Nathalie Heinich (.PDF)
📮 The Glory of Van Gogh by Nathalie Heinich (.PDF) The image of the great artist as a suffering visionary is a recent invention, observes sociologist Nathalie Heinich--an invention rooted in the "canonization" of Vincent van Gogh as a cultural hero for the twentieth century. Heinich explores how and why the impoverished and mentally tormented van Gogh came to be glorified shortly after his suicide at the age of 37. Did the secular art world need a rebel-saint of its own? In considering this possibility, the author explores the history of efforts to celebrate van Gogh, whether in biographies or on T-shirts, showing how the details of his life have been constructed according to the pattern of a Christian saint's rise to recognition. These biographical details circulated first as anecdotes, then as historical truths, and finally became legendary motifs defining individual greatness. At the time of van Gogh's death, early modernists hailed the work of this self-taught painter as that of a reforming prophet. Public interest stirred when the unique and tragic aspects of the artist's personal life came to light. In these stories, the figure of Van Gogh oscillated between godlike asceticism (he lived on very little, did not get married, did not eat much, and devoted his life to his work) and demonic frenzy (he drank, he went to brothels, and offered a piece of his own flesh, his severed ear, to a prostitute). His legend became one of victim and sacrificer, of an accursed artist who gave the world great paintings but paid the heavy price of society's ignorance. Heinich organizes her book around the stages that characterize the life of a saint-deviation, renewal, reconciliation, and pilgrimage, the latter culminating in visits to van Gogh's burial site and the competition to buy his paintings or "relics." Heinich explores the economics of the art market and the themes that make up the van Gogh myth, such as the personalization of artistic grandeur, the celebration of the interiority of the creator, and the glorification of abnormality. By examining the mythology that helps drive artistic investment, she forces us to reconsider the nature of admiration and particularly the notion that obscurity during an artist's lifetime is a guarantee of true genius. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Nathalie Heinich Size 2MB Category Non-Fiction > Biographies & Memoirs File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/XNUs6JWR9Dot https://devuploads.com/9op3awq0hx2h

The Human Edge by Keith J. Holyoak (.PDF)
📮 The Human Edge by Keith J. Holyoak (.PDF) What makes human cognition distinct from animal and artificial forms of intelligence—and how analogies play a crucial role in our unique abilities. In The Human Edge, cognitive scientist, poet, and translator Keith Holyoak takes a fresh look at what makes human intelligence special. His focus is analogy—the ability to see relational similarities between things that on the surface seem unalike. The book brings together a half century of research in cognitive, comparative, and developmental psychology, coupled with work in philosophy, law, education, linguistics, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. Rather than simply examining analogy as an isolated human ability, Holyoak places it in the broader context of a trinity of special human capacities—analogy, language, and understanding the minds of other people. Each of these capacities relies on distinct neural circuitry in the human brain. Holyoak analyzes the similarities—and critical differences—between cognition in humans and in other intelligent animals, ranging from crows to chimpanzees. He also traces how relational thinking develops in children, emphasizing the distinctive advances that begin at about age three. Along the way, Holyoak paints a broad picture of how people use analogy in everyday life—to make jokes, to argue, to teach, to make moral judgments. He considers when an analogy counts as rational evidence—for or against a scientific hypothesis, or the judgment in a legal case. He also evaluates the most recent advances in artificial intelligence that have started to achieve complex tasks previously limited to humans while highlighting the distinctive aspects of human creativity. In a time of rapid technological change, with ominous portents for society, this book provides a timely reexamination of what really counts as the human edge. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Keith J. But her secretive life collapses when she’s captured and sentenced to compete in the Trials of Myrkur—a rival kingdom’s brutal hunt for a queen to wed their cold-hearted prince. Yet Noa has no interest in winning a crown or a brooding prince’s heart. Her true mission lies in recovering a stolen relic that could buy her freedom and perhaps her survival. As Noa navigates a treacherous arena filled with cunning rivals and would-be queens, she begins to form unlikely alliances that make her question her solitary existence and just how ordinary she really is. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Michelle Nazaran Size 2.3MB Category Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/znAY3Ltx1I3J https://devuploads.com/u1znu2qahczr
