Gifted Children in Britain and the World by Jennifer Crane (.PDF)
📮 Gifted Children in Britain and the World by Jennifer Crane (.PDF) The idea that a child is intellectually 'gifted' has a social and cultural history. This book analyses that social history at multiple scales, and makes the 'voices' of the 'gifted' young themselves central through examination of their poetry, letters, and life-writing. In daily encounters, those labelled 'gifted' sometimes loved this label, and felt special in comparison to peers at school and siblings at home. For others, 'gifted' was a silly or embarrassing label, and many questioned the idea of separating off young people in terms of intelligence, as well as the specific forms of testing being used. Ideas of the 'gifted' child also reshaped family lives – parents dedicated time to providing special leisure spaces for those thought of as 'gifted', running them in their own homes and taking their children significant distances to spend time with others that were also 'gifted'. Voluntary organisations were critical here, as the network through which young people and adults encountered the term, 'gifted', and lived and created it relationally, through interactions with one another. Voluntary organisations, looking to gain attention and visibility, also critically shaped the idea that the 'gifted' young were elites of 'the future', central to answering challenges of economic decline, global warfare, or humanitarian aid. The hopes placed on 'gifted' children between the 1960s and the 1990s were often sky high – yet many 'gifted' young still felt that the community 'wasted' their talents, and did not support them. This book, then, provides new perspectives on the tensions between elitism and equality in modern Britain. It also offers vivid stories of optimism, hope, disappointment, and criticism, in which young people themselves play a central role. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Jennifer Crane Size 4MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/vi35BQ0NiTQd https://devuploads.com/2n5dc6xffts8

Gama Goat (Detail In Action 39003) by David Doyle (.PDF)
📮 Gama Goat (Detail In Action 39003) by David Doyle (.PDF) Conceived at a time when the US Army was seeking to revolutionize its tactical vehicle fleet, the Gama Goat showed considerable promise. Deriving its name from its designer, Roger Gamaunt, the Gama Goat was initially a project of aerospace giant Chance-Vought. The all-wheel-drive vehicle with steerable axles at each end and a flexible connection between the halves of its two-part body proved to be agile in testing. The flexibility gave the vehicle sure footing, and the body was designed to be amphibious. Sadly, the production M561 Gama Goats, assembled by Consolidated Diesel Electric, failed to live up to the promise of the test vehicles, leading to a Congressional investigation into both the vehicle performance and cost overruns. Expense modifications and retrofitting delayed the fielding of the vehicle. Troops using these engineering marvels either loved them or hated them, with seemingly no middle ground. Ultimately, the vehicle saw use with US forces stateside, as well as in Germany and Korea, and the M561 was used during the invasion of Grenada. Chronicles the design, development, testing, and field use of this iconic vehicle, as well as showcasing the nuances of the remarkable design with images of immaculately preserved examples. ♻️ Book's Info: Author David Doyle Size 53MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type PDF 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/LfUEnvViouNz https://devuploads.com/0gd6scleiakg

Naval Warfare in the Age of Sail by Bernard Ireland (.PDF)
📮 Naval Warfare in the Age of Sail by Bernard Ireland (.PDF) Covering the classic era of sailing ship warfare from the mid-eighteenth century to the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, Naval Warfare in the Age of Sail reveals how warships were built, sailed, and fought in the era made popular today by the novels of Patrick O'Brian and C. S. Forester. The often dense technical detail of these works is explained here for the general reader through text and illustrations that bring the period vividly to life. Through his discussions of single-ship actions, fleet operations, famous commanders, and the day-to-day routines of the men who worked the ships, Bernard Ireland investigates how the navy of King George III came to dominate the high seas, ushering in a century of British maritime supremacy. Acclaimed naval artist Tony Gibbons illustrates every type of sailing warship from ships of the line, frigates, and sloops to privateers' schooners, bomb ketches, and xebecs. Fighting the Desert Fox by John Delaney (.PDF)
📮 Fighting the Desert Fox by John Delaney (.PDF) Skillful and daring, dynamic and aggressive and tactically brilliant, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel–the Desert Fox–nearly defeated the Allies during 15 months of intense fighting on the North African front. Until Rommel's arrival, the poorly commanded Italian troops stationed there posed little threat–but afterwards, it took a long time and a nearly endless succession of Allied leaders to cope with this new presence. Soldiers from many countries paid for these mistakes with their lives. 1939 by Charles River Editors (.ePUB)
📮 1939 by Charles River Editors (.ePUB) My good friends," the mustached, bony man with thick eyebrows and large, strong teeth somewhat reminiscent of those of a horse, shouted to the crowds from the second-floor window of his house at 10 Downing Street, "this is the second time in our history, that there has come back to Downing Street from Germany peace with honor. I believe it is peace for our time." (McDonough, 1998, 70). The man addressing the crowd, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, had just returned from the heart of Nazi Germany following negotiations with Adolf Hitler, and the crowd gathered outside the English leader's house on September 30, 1938 greeted these ringing words with grateful cheers. The piece of paper Chamberlain flourished exultantly seemed to offer permanent amity and goodwill between democratic Britain and totalitarian Germany. In it, Britain agreed to allow Hitler's Third Reich to absorb the Sudeten regions of Czechoslovakia without interference from either England or France, and since high percentages of ethnic Germans – often more than 50% locally – inhabited these regions, Hitler's demand for this territory seemed somewhat reasonable to Chamberlain and his supporters. With Germany resurgent and rearmed after the disasters inflicted on it by the Treaty of Versailles following World War I, the pact – known as the Munich Agreement – held out hope of a quick end to German ambitions and the return of stable, normal international relations across Europe. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Charles River Editors Size 19MB Category Non-Fiction > History File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/GpPCsABJvLbv https://devuploads.com/xc6vj26ha8fa

Forbidden Kitchen by Camilo Cesarino (.ePUB)
📮 Forbidden Kitchen by Camilo Cesarino (.ePUB) Welcome to the threshold of the unknown, the razor's edge that separates delight from danger, tradition from transgression. “The Forbidden Kitchen: Hidden Delights between Ethics and Sustainability” is more than a book; it's a gastronomic odyssey that pushes the boundaries of what we consider edible, ethical, and legal. In these pages, brave readers will embark on an unprecedented culinary journey, exploring the most remote and forbidden corners of world gastronomy. From the delicate and potentially deadly pufferfish of Japan, whose preparation requires master hands, to the casu marzu of Sardinia, a cheese infested with larvae that defies both the stomach and the law, each chapter draws the veil from the most controversial foods and practices globally. But "The Forbidden Kitchen" does not stop at the mere exposure of these taboo delicacies; it delves into the stories, cultures and secrets of their preparation, offering a unique perspective on the intricate relationship between human beings and their food. Through its chapters, this book tackles everything from the “Delicious Perils,” where the line between culinary ecstasy and mortal risk is as fine as a knife cut, to the “Cultural Prohibitions” that reveal how faith and traditions shape our palates and prejudices. “Legal Boundaries” examines the eternal dance between gastronomy and regulation, while “Culinary Adventures” proposes legal ways to experience these forbidden flavors. Finally, "The Ethics of the Prohibited" invites reflection on the environmental and social repercussions of the consumption of these foods. ♻️ Book's Info: Author Camilo Cesarino Size 9MB Category Non-Fiction > Food & Drink File Type ePUB 📥 Download Links: https://uploda.sh/Y2OCucahNNCF https://devuploads.com/edi2w9fmg1qz
