đź“® 7 Pride and Prejudice variations by Elaine Burkett (.ePUB)

Elaine Burkett lives in Utah with her husband of more than twenty-five years. In her younger years, she was well-known for loving science and math and hating English, however, an obsession with reading, and an addiction to sweet romances and fairy tale retellings sparked a desire to try her hand at the craft of writing. Elaine’s hobbies include watching anime, playing video games, and cooking, as well as reading and writing. Her writing genre is mainly short and sweet romances that are perfect for a rainy afternoon, but in general she writes what she wants to read. Thank you for reading her work.

To Marry a Man For His Library

To Marry a Man For His Library In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Elizabeth injures her ankle while visiting Charlotte at Hunsford, and Mr. Darcy is there to save her. As he keeps her company during her recovery, Elizabeth’s opinion of him improves dramatically, so much so that when he proposes, she accepts even though she is not in love with him. Her injured ankle complicates matters, but Elizabeth’s wedding day arrives before she is able to walk again. Supported by the love of her husband, Elizabeth gradually becomes accustomed to her new life, but there is much to learn about love and married life for them both. This is a novella length book of about 40,000 words. much of this story takes place after the wedding and thus there are mature themes involved, though there is nothing explicit.

Elizabeth's Magic

Elizabeth's Magic Elizabeth’s unique combination of slow magical conduction and extreme magical sensitivity makes her highly effective at creating new magical inscriptions, so much so that she publishes her first one at the tender age of only eighteen with the help of her father. However, she publishes it under the name E. Bennet to avoid revealing her gender. This magical inscription, which aids in the precise sheering of sheep, caught the eye of Mr. Darcy, who happens to own an estate with over two thousand sheep. When he writes to the mysterious E. Bennet, creator of the inscription, to ask a few questions, he unexpectedly begins an ongoing correspondence that lasts almost two years. Over this time, Mr. Darcy begins to consider E. Bennet a friend. A chance invitation gives Darcy a chance to meet his mysterious letter-writing friend, and he jumps at the opportunity, even if it means staying in the home of one of his more social climbing friends, Mr. Bingley. When E. Bennet turns out to be a female, Darcy must confront some of his most deeply held beliefs about the female sex. Many side characters have new personalities in this magic-filled Pride and Prejudice variation, but at its core it is still the story of how Elizabeth and Darcy overcome their pre-conceptions and fall in love, facing challenges together in the process.

3 A Winter's Night: Christmas at Longbourn

3 A Winter's Night: Christmas at Longbourn After the Netherfield ball, Mr. Darcy escaped to London, fleeing from his feelings for Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Yet, three weeks spent separated from her have done nothing to cool his ardor. Conversations with his friend, Mr. Bingley, and his sister, Georgiana, finally made him realize that he needed Elizabeth in his life, and he would do anything to bring that about. With that in mind, he returned to Netherfield with Bingley and Georgiana, but they got caught in a snowstorm and were forced to take shelter at Longbourn. Two days spent under the same roof as his beloved Elizabeth helped to clear the air between them, and an accidental, yet magical, meeting under the moonlight set them on the path to their happy ending. This is a light, Christmas-themed, novella. 4

Blessing or Burden: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Blessing or Burden: A Pride and Prejudice Variation In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Elizabeth Bennet unexpectedly inherits a large fortune as the story begins. The effects of this surprising situation are, at first, delightful. Elizabeth is able to provide her sisters with suitable dowries as well as a delightful shopping trip in London. As the realities of her situation set in, however, her male friends and neighbors turn into fortune hunters, swamping her with unwanted attention. After a few dangerous scrapes, Elizabeth decides to try her luck in London, hoping that by keeping her good fortune a secret, she can find a suitable husband to share her burden. Her luck runs out in London when her secret is leaked, and she is once again mobbed by a great deal of unwanted attention. After a few disasters bring her spirit low and eliminates the last shred of respect she has for men in general, Elizabeth decides to forego marriage altogether, and she retires to the countryside. With Charlotte as her companion, Elizabeth purchases an estate in Derbyshire near her aunt’s hometown of Lambton. There she meets Mr. Darcy, her handsome but reticent neighbor. Over time, Mr. Darcy gradually restores Elizabeth’s faith in men, or at least one man in particular. 5

Mr. Bennet's Death

Mr. Bennet's Death In the spring of 1812, Darcy visits Rosings, just as he does every year, but almost as soon as he gets there, he hears that Mr. Bennet has passed away. Anxiety and concern for Elizabeth consume him, and he sets out to discover if she is well, only to be thwarted by Mrs. Collins who bluntly points out his poor behavior in Hertfordshire. With the help of his cousin, Richard, and his aunt, Lady Matlock, Darcy adjusts his perspective and sets out to woo and marry his heart’s desire, Miss Elizabeth Bennet. With elements of a marriage of convenience as well as the discovery of true love, sprinkled with a bit of mischief from Lydia and Wickham, this Pride and Prejudice variation is perfect for curling up with on a quiet afternoon. It is a quick read of 45,000 words. 6

Elizabeth's Ilusions: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Elizabeth's Ilusions: A Pride and Prejudice Variation In a world where everyone has a small magical gift, the Bennet sisters, Elizabeth and Jane, have been gifted with the ability to create illusions. Elizabeth's illusions are visual, and Jane's are auditory. Together they use their illusions to create decorations and entertainment for some of the most exclusive parties in London. While doing so, the sisters gain much attention, most of it benign, but some of it is quite disturbing. Eventually, Elizabeth and Jane withdraw from their work and find other occupations for their time. The summer after removing themselves from the London scene, they are reintroduced to an acquaintance, Mr. Darcy, while visiting their aunt in Meryton. Mr. Darcy introduces them to his friend, Mr. Bingley, and the ensuing summer is spent in their delightful company, yet it does not end well. When the summer ends, the sisters once again return to their home in London. Things take an additional twist when Elizabeth and Jane once again run into Mr. Darcy. Confusion, heartache, and mixed signals ensue, but as always the ending is a happy one. 7

Chasing A Dream: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Chasing A Dream: A Pride and Prejudice Variation Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy meet as children when Elizabeth’s father visits his old friend, George Darcy, in order to use his library for research. The two children develop a special bond during the two weeks of Elizabeth’s stay, enough so that they each remember the other fondly for many years afterward. Despite George Darcy’s efforts to bring about a match between the two of them, Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam do not meet again until ten years later, when Mr. Darcy visits the town of Meryton with his friend Mr. Bingley. Although Elizabeth recognizes Mr. Darcy immediately, Mr. Darcy does not recognize her, and his insult prevents her from attempting to tell him. Despite her pain, Elizabeth does her best to at least get to know the adult version of her childhood friend. Nothing works out as planned, however, and Elizabeth is hurt over and over, culminating in her decision to completely give up hope. Circumstances do eventually lead to a happily ever after for the two of them, but the road is not smooth or painless. This novel contains a side plot where Mary Bennet finds romance and is the first Bennet sister to become engaged.
