2. MX Hub

2. MX Hub - Everything had changed for Zander Greaves over the last few weeks. He’d gone from being a private military contractor with his squad in the Middle East to being isekai-ed into a different multiverse. He lost his friends and his lover, Selda, in the same hour of his arrival, sparking in him the mission to kill every single Entoma he could to repay them for his loss. Luckily, an alien named Crish arrived to help Zander adjust to his new reality. His first few days were a chaotic mess as he tried to adapt, but it was his first day on board the ship Fractured Dreams that Zander discovered what his new life would be. He was one of the lucky one-in-ten-thousand: a person whose body accepted an AI of Antecedent technology. His AI, however, was special, taking on the memories and persona of his former lover, Selda Engel. With Crish’s and AI Selda’s help, Zander came up with a mad plan to displace the pilot leader, Shivatin the Rakshasa, and take over that position. He had experience staying alive as a mercenary, and used that to forge the fractured crew into a new, cohesive whole. As he was finally taking on the mantle of leader, Shivatin led a mutiny to take the ship from the captain and to kill Zander. The Rakshasa had no clue what he’d unleashed in doing so; Zander led his new team in a repelling action, killing the invading boarders, then pushing on to the bridge to take out Shivatin. Veldiami, the captain of Fractured Dreams, took it one step further, boarding the other ship that helped in the mutiny to claim as salvage. It only took killing four— including the ship’s captain— to secure it as loot. Left on the other ship, the Righteous, to guide it to the nearest galactic hub, Zander made a deal with the remaining crew. They used the FTL drive to reach the hub that day, meaning Zander would find himself alone on MX Hub for two days before Fractured Dreams and her crew arrived. What trouble could a Human— completely out of his depth in a new universe and on an alien space station— get into before his crewmates arrived?

3. Terran Tactics

3. Terran Tactics - MX Hub had proven to have challenges that Zander hadn’t anticipated. Accidentally getting tagged by a rogue element, he thwarted corporate espionage at Maverick Mecha Manufacturing. Lavella Hemoesta, the owner of Maverick, met with him to work out a deal so her company wouldn’t be given bad press. That meeting changed the future for both Lavella and Zander. After a few false starts, including a multiple homicide in a hedge maze, the pair finally found some time for intimate fun. Zander flipped the script on Lavella, making the Vampire prey instead of the predator, firmly setting their budding relationship in stone. After the whirlwind sex, Zander proposed a crazy idea that set the stage for something unseen by galactic society: a mecha tournament. It was during the tournament that Zander led his team to victory by using his training as a military contractor. In doing so, he flouted the training left by the Antecedents, but his squad won handily every time. Some of the losing squads took it badly, but none as badly as Smaztil Hammish, the lead pilot of Proud Axe. When the Dwarven pilots lost, they physically attacked Zander’s at the end of the tournament. With the tournament over and a party waiting, the crew stopped only long enough to try collecting their bets. The organized crime group who’d taken the bet refused to pay up, but instead of a bloody confrontation, Zander just forwarded the video evidence to the magistrates and they left the gang behind. What would come from Zander’s flagrant disregard of the Antecedents’ training? Would the criminal organization take umbrage at being called out? Only time will tell…

4. Antecedents' Assembly

4. Antecedents' Assembly - Zander led his crew through the first-ever mecha tournament, sweeping the top spot in every event. That catapulted Zander, his crew, and Fractured Dreams into becoming household names on MX Hub, but it also generated some bad blood with people who didn’t like the way Zander did things. It also saw the bookie, Trenton, refusing to pay them; he wasn’t about to let them bankrupt him. However, Trenton made a fatal mistake when he kidnapped one of the new mecha pilots under Zander’s banner, and the ensuing conflict left Trenton and his flunkies dead. Zander was arrested, but his lawyer— courtesy of Lavella— had him free in a few hours. If that wasn’t enough, the Terran delegates arrived. They met with Zander twice, and Zander wasn’t buying what they wanted to sell him. His warning to them about respecting the “Cult of the Spork” fell on deaf ears. When the Terrans were accosted over their lack of respect for the Antecedents, it started a brawl. That, along with Trenton’s death, turned public opinion firmly against Zander. The bad news wasn’t done there, though, as an even bigger event came to the forefront. A level-five containment breach by the Entoma had them landing behemoths on a dozen worlds, and in a few cases, two or even three behemoths were sent per world. With Dreams out of commission because of upgrades, Zander and his pilots were given over to the Assembled Fist to help with the breach. Zander had to prove to Nato, the lead pilot of the ship, that he was the best option to lead them into what everyone saw as a death mission. After claiming the lead pilot position, Zander still had to prove himself to the captain and mecha tech, but even they eventually understood why he’d taken over. When the mission ended, two of the thirty pilots on Assembled Fist had died; the rest were alive, making a first in Assembly history. Zander was told he’d be called in front of the Galactic Assembly to explain how he’d managed what he had, but that would come after a stop back at MX Hub.
