3. Acting on Faith

3. Acting on Faith After leaving his friend Charles Bingley in Hertfordshire, Fitzwilliam Darcy intends to see to business in London while gaining some much-needed distance from the enchanting Elizabeth Bennet. Little does he know that his peace will soon be disturbed. To his surprise, his aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, descends upon him in a fury, demanding that he agree to marry her daughter. She neglects to tell him, however, that she has just parted ways with Elizabeth in Hertfordshire, the "unsatisfactory" result of the meeting being Elizabeth's refusal to promise never to marry him. Amid what he fears is a whirlwind of rumors, Darcy is forced to move forward in his quest to secure Elizabeth's hand with no assurances of her regard. Unfortunately, neither Caroline Bingley nor Elizabeth's childhood friend Samuel Lucas intend to make it easy for him. Picking up after chapter 56 of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this charming tale of love and determination explores what would have happened if Fitzwilliam Darcy had no indication other than his own observation, that Elizabeth Bennet’s opinion of him had changed. His fortitude and constancy once more put to the test in the face of blatant interference, her mother’s dislike, and her father’s ambivalence, Darcy is required to “act on faith” to secure the woman of his dreams.

7. A Devoted Sister

7. A Devoted Sister (.ePUB) Jane Bennet is a mild-mannered and thoughtful woman, always looking for the best in others. Elizabeth, though she loves her sister, has always despaired over Jane’s inability to perceive the motivations of others. But what if Jane was just as discerning as her sister and more forceful about expressing her opinion while keeping the other traits that comprise her angelic character? When a new family arrives at Netherfield Park, Jane Bennet has married and become Jane Harrington, and Mr. Bingley starts his tenure in Meryton with a faux pas, not realizing his angel is already married to another. Darcy, who has always deplored his friend’s tendency to become enamored with beautiful women, witnesses this, and while he laments his friend’s error, he appreciates the lack of Bingley’s usual infatuation in Meryton. Darcy also quickly becomes enamored with Mrs. Harrington’s pretty and vivacious sister. However, Jane and Elizabeth note that Mr. Bingley has begun to pay attention to their younger sister, and while neither thinks he has serious designs on her, they worry for their sister’s sensibilities. Complicating matters is Darcy’s wish to avoid appearing officious to his friend. As Darcy and Elizabeth’s appreciation for each other flourishes, the conflict within the Netherfield party grows, provoked by Bingley’s younger sister, who has no love for the neighborhood, and Bingley’s own actions toward a girl too young to accept his assurances. Together, they must forge through such trials in pursuit of a shared future, supported by Elizabeth’s dearest sister, who wishes for nothing more than Elizabeth’s happiness.

8. No Indignity So Abhorrent

8. No Indignity So Abhorrent (.ePUB) Assistance is impossible; condolence, insufferable. Let them triumph over us at a distance, and be satisfied.” Assistance is impossible; condolence, insufferable. Let them triumph over us at a distance, and be satisfied.” In a world where a single misstep by a woman is injurious to all her family, the Bennets of Longbourn finds themselves shunned and despised by all their friends when one sister runs away with an officer. Mr. Bennet rouses himself from his beloved books and pursues the lovers to London, but returns empty-handed, his daughter lost forever. When the Bingley party arrives at Netherfield Park, they discover a neighborhood with a salacious scandal and a family ostracized from their midst. Though Miss Bingley revels in the gossip she learns from those with little sense and less discretion, Fitzwilliam Darcy keeps himself aloof, unwilling to join the condemnation without proof of poor behavior. Thus, when Darcy meets Miss Bennet by chance on a secluded path of her father’s estate, he finds her strangely compelling. The compulsion to continue to meet with her is strong, in defiance of the consequences if they should be discovered. Elizabeth Bennet finds herself equally intrigued, so much so that she begins to dream of a life free of scandal, where the Bennets have some hope of redemption. This re-imagination of Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice answers the question of what might have happened had Fitzwilliam Darcy arrived in Meryton to find a Bennet family mired in scandal, one that he can do nothing to repair. Though many challenges lay in their path, including fallen sisters, despicable libertines, and a neighborhood determined to denounce the Bennets as depraved, Darcy and Elizabeth are convinced that their future happiness lies together. 9.

Mr. Darcy's Return

Mr. Darcy's Return Mr. Bingley leaves Hertfordshire after his ball, throwing the Bennet family into turmoil and Jane Bennet into despair. Sensing an opportunity, Mr. Collins capitalizes on this event to stoke Mrs. Bennet’s fears in his attempt to force Elizabeth Bennet’s hand and provoke her to accept him, but Elizabeth remains firm in her convictions. Into this strained situation, gossip reveals that Netherfield Park is to be opened again, but instead of the expected Mr. Bingley, the resident at the estate is soon revealed to be none other than Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Elizabeth does not appreciate Mr. Darcy, for his slight of her and the stories from Mr. Wickham have left her in a state of festering disapproval and disdain for the gentleman from the north. The gentleman proposes to her, leading to Elizabeth’s acrimonious refusal, but she soon realizes her opinion of Mr. Darcy is amiss when he explains certain facts of Mr. Wickham’s history and acts to bring Mr. Bingley back to Hertfordshire. Though Elizabeth is uncertain of the wisdom of allowing him any hope, she allows Mr. Darcy to call on her, determined to learn more about the enigmatic gentleman. Yet Mr. Collins has not abandoned his hope. A man so ineffectual as he is no temptation for Elizabeth, and he just may yet be of some use to her, for there is no comparison between a silly parson and a gentleman such as Mr. Darcy . . . .

10 .Four Days at Netherfield

10 .Four Days at Netherfield Elizabeth Bennet’s visit to Netherfield Park to tend to her ailing sister takes a surprising turn when she meets with Mr. Darcy on the grounds, and his manner so altered as to shock her. The gentleman provokes her gratitude when he helps her escape all Miss Bingley’s contempt, conveying her to her sister’s room and taking the duty of informing the mistress of her presence on himself. As her stay at the estate lengthens, Elizabeth comes to appreciate him, for this Mr. Darcy is a man worth knowing, his opinions intelligent, his manner deferential. Their newfound amity is not agreeable to all those present, however, for Miss Bingley has long schemed to draw a proposal from the unwilling Mr. Darcy and will not surrender her prize without a struggle. Before Elizabeth and Jane depart from the estate, Elizabeth has proof of the gentleman’s interest in his own words, and she cannot help but wonder how the future will unfold with this who appears so determined to have her good opinion. The arrival of a fool and a libertine in turn throws obstacles in the lovers’ path, but the course of true love, though it may not always be smooth, cannot be prevented forever. Those four days at Netherfield Park have changed Elizabeth’s perspective, which will change her future. 11

Vicious Propensities

Vicious Propensities A succession of fair weather on the heels of Elizabeth Bennet’s first meeting with Mr. Wickham in Meryton allows her to observe him in the days leading up to the ball at Netherfield Park. What Elizabeth sees soon disquiets her, for Mr. Wickham appears nothing like the man he portrays himself to be. Mr. Darcy, however, appears changed in those days, for he visits Longbourn many times, his interactions with Elizabeth improving so much that she enjoys his company. Fitzwilliam Darcy knows Wickham better than he wishes, for in Wickham he has always seen a man eager to take advantage of others with no care for those he hurts. When Darcy overhears a conversation between Wickham and another officer making suggestive comments about the Bennet sisters, he resolves to protect them against anything Wickham might try. As the situation with Wickham worsens, Elizabeth slowly understands that Mr. Wickham is not telling the truth about his adversary, and Mr. Darcy is proving to be far more than she had ever expected. To Darcy, the determination to protect Miss Elizabeth has become something more, for Darcy soon realizes that she is all he ever wishes to have in a wife. Now all he needs to do is convince her.
