#1 - In a world on the brink, survival isn’t just a game—it’s the only game. But when only one soul holds all the cards, they get to play however they want. Argrave, the royal bastard of House Vasquer, went into his magic apprenticeship cruel and awkward, yet left it with a neat dignity and an acerbic wit. But beneath the veneer of self-assurance, the body’s new soul is wrestling with the dread of existence in a reality that once existed only in the pages of fantasy. In the blink of an eye, a wiki editor’s deep and somewhat unhealthy understanding of a game becomes useful, usable knowledge when he inexplicably replaces the once-cruel royal bastard. Before he can start to push his frail body to use his deep understanding of the lore to handle the imminent apocalypse, or go off to stop an invasion, there’s a more personal task he needs to handle first. His cousin has a knife in her hand and death in her eyes.

#2 - Mortals falter under the weight of their choices. Only one man has walked every path and stayed strong. The bearer of borrowed blood and stolen soul. Argrave tasted the invasion's bitter bite and earned some breathing room. Each breath is short and catches in his lungs, as he’s still hounded by the frailty and weak constitution he inherited from the original owner of his body. With plague sweeping through the world, literally reconstructing his body is the only way to live through the coming trials. Risking life and limb at every turn, he and his allies walk upon a dark path of stone roses. The bastard’s more royal sibling and their deranged father are struggling to tether a kingdom on the brink of civil war. Necromantic atrocities free of their long-dead creators and the order of knights meant to contain them veritably compete to prove which one can be a deadlier obstacle to Argrave’s plans. But he knows something that they don’t, something that will make him grimly move forward no matter the cost. The clock is ticking. If Argrave’s plans aren't in motion, the world will bleed out.

#3 - The future hangs by a thread. Wisdom and kindness are a luxury. Freedom is balanced against the promise of tomorrow. Argrave's harrowing journey to the Burnt Desert left him at death’s door, but breathed new life into his group by adding a fresh face to the party… if a severed head on a stick can be considered a proper companion. His goal is in sight within this foreign land with a tradition of hostility, and the royal bastard stands at the cusp of becoming black-blooded. All of the magic, components, and requisite skills are close at hand. But the closer the team gets to their desires, the tighter the web of impending conflict tightens around them—a web woven with the threads of zealous devotion by the god Fellhorn’s despotic followers. Even with how hard they struggle to succeed, there’s no way to know if the inscrutable, unstable Alchemist will be willing to perform the procedure or eradicate them on the spot. Just as worrisome is knowing that even if they can convince the Alchemist to take the job, he can demand any price for his services: body, mind, or even soul.

#4 - A powerful mind. A robust body. Both are needed to survive dead gods and zealots. After clashing fiercely with Fellhorn's followers, Argrave has been forever altered by the desert's crucible. Awaiting him as he makes his way back to his homeland are faces from the past – friends and foes, all unprepared for his transformation. Argrave now ventures into the core of a land besieged by plague, forced to ally with his unpredictable, fervently passionate brother: Orion. Wielding strength that borders on the mythical, Orion might just hold the key to quelling the foul force spawning the unnatural pestilence. Yet, alliances are as delicate as they are dangerous. If Orion discovers the source of the change Argrave has endured, the lines between brother and enemy could blur in an instant. His transformation is both a weapon and a wildcard, meaning Argrave needs to dance on the razor's edge of saving the land... and not being burned as a heretic.

#5 - After one of the deadliest family reunions imaginable, Argrave finds himself becoming ever more entwined in the civil war engulfing the kingdom. With a steeled heart, he must plunge headfirst into this cloudy whirlpool of grudges and allegiances. His father the king remains undefeated in battle, though the rebels have come further than any before them. However the dice land, he doesn't intend to join this fight without allies. Foremost among these allies is a woman who is blind and lame, yet has more vision than one thousand men. Argrave must earn the trust and support of Elenore. Untrusting, pragmatic, callous, and selfish, it promises to be a difficult task to convince her to aid the dark horse that is Argrave. Ever-watching eyes scrutinize Argrave’s progress… both his father, and a more distant ancestor.

#6

#6 - Countless obstacles have barred Argrave’s uncertain path to kingship, most of all his own acceptance, yet now the race is nearing its end. His brother Orion has acted contrary to anyone’s expectations in defying his father, yet a kingdom is more than its king alone. Each of the kingdom’s dozen vassals have vassals of their own, and Vasquer is on the brink of shattering into countless petty nations as it did in the history Argrave remembers. The stain of bastardry lingers on Argrave’s claim, and unless he intends to earn a title without any power, he must act the delicate diplomat, the unbroken commander, and the just ruler all in one. Serious introspection suggests he may be none of the three. But then, who’s to say a king has to be himself at all?

#7

#7 - Though not all ended as expected, the Kingdom of Vasquer stands unified against the coming calamity. Even with its internal threats mitigated, enemies still lurk beyond the border. On a large belt of land to the northeast, an untamed forest of towering redwood trees known as the Bloodwoods experience tumult to such a degree it begins to spill over to Vasquer. As the situation within the nearby nation proves increasingly dire, Argrave is forced to take direct action before a wave of hostile people and animals native to those towering woods are forced out, doubtlessly ravaging the kingdom. Unwelcome by both the indigenous elves and centaurs, the diplomatic mission promises to veer in countless directions. This time, however, Argrave has a nation at his back.

#8

#8 - Problems are rarely as they appear on the surface. Argrave's dealt with all the surface has to offer, and now has to deal with that beneath it; specifically, that which lives there. The underground is a merciless place that can claim the life of even the most hardened adventurer, and the hard times there have created hard people who would much prefer the easy living offered on the surface. A cult prepares to strike at the Kingdom of Vasquer. Its leader has strength enough he might deserve the title of god he so boldly claims. In the coming tragedy, however, lies opportunity. In these underground depths, there are hints of a greater future than the cycle of judgment the heavens bestowed upon them. And Argrave has never been one to let the future pass him by.

#9

#9 - If there was a sentient calamity with the goal to end the world, it might meddle with the planet directly rather than waste time on its people. Such a calamity could exploit the volatile forces of the planet's core, ending everyone from within without seeking their say in the matter. That would be a brutally effective way for this thinking disaster to see its goal to fruition. That isn't actually happening, of course. But for Argrave, it'd be convenient if it was. He's crafted this deception to engage in diplomacy with the reclusive dwarves, who've mastered the depths of the planet and have decided to leave the surface entirely. Argrave needs access to their grand city, yet their democratic culture looks down upon their monarchic ways. Given the (metaphorical) heights dwarven civilization has reached, they could be justified in rebuffing the topside... but Argrave's never cared much for justification.

#10 - Defeating the invaders from overseas wasn't the end to a problem, but rather its beginning. Argrave's divine opponents have taken root in an empire that has prevailed for millennia to carry out an unrelenting barrage upon him and all his people. With a severe numerical and technological advantage, this foe would be nigh impossible to defeat under normal circumstances. Argrave can't impose the will of his small kingdom upon this vast empire, but perhaps all this dragon needs is a change in attitude. Argrave travels overseas, carrying the banner of a claimant. The man is far too ambitious and cunning to be a good puppet, but he is committed to ridding his empire of all pretenders and self-proclaimed gods. Imperial politics have had infinitely more losers than winners, but Argrave and his family enter the arena with their heads held high, attempting like many before them to install a dynasty that will last a thousand years.

#11

#11 - Upon moving into a new, ancient home, it's expected that one will find secrets. In this case, Argrave has made the world his home, and the secrets that he's finding affect far more than him alone. Even still, they prove to be unusually centered on him, his heritage, and many aspects of his life that he's only discovering deeper relevance to only now. His blood carries with it secrets that neither he nor any other have uncovered before, perhaps only because they weren't before allowed. At the same time, darker aspects of the world demand attention. Typically, the evil things come out of the abyss into their world, wreaking havoc as they please. Argrave's never enjoyed this game of bloody knuckles, but the abyss is the abyss, where no living thing has walked or seen the lands within ever before. Is there even a route forward?

#12

#12 - After a grueling journey, Argrave has come to what promises to be the end of the line. Here, years of preparation will combat millennia of a cycle of misery. The battle promises to be more than a simple struggle for victory. It has become bitterly personal, both for the sake of vengeance and the protection of loved ones. Even if Argrave can win, he isn't certain he can do so without loss. But the table has already been set, the die have already been cast, and the war has begun. All that remains is seeing everything to completion.
