As Evie and Tom follow the trail of clues, they stumble on a plot to ruin a high-ranking member of society. However, offering their assistance could backfire on them. To think, Evie had planned the trip into town as a respite from all the troubles that seem to come her way…

16. Fishing for Murder

16. Fishing for Murder - Fishing can be deadly… Evie’s plan to indulge Tom’s desire for a spot of fishing turns deadly. Either people are dying unexpectedly of natural causes or someone has become quite an expert at killing without leaving a trace. As the unexpected deaths continue to increase, Evie and Tom become suspicious. The signs are subtle but there nonetheless. They know they must bring their concerns to the attention of the police, even if they prove to be groundless. However, the local police find no reason to investigate. This convinces Evie and Tom to turn to their friends at Scotland Yard but, first, they must find proof of wrongdoing and that could set the killer on their trail.

18. Murder in the Fields

18. Murder in the Fields - If any of you know cause or just impediment why these persons should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, ye are to declare it. Marriage banns are being read right across the county, but no one seems to be paying much attention, not when there is so much else happening. The dowagers, Henrietta and Sara, and Toodles are recovering from a summer cold and making up for lost time. While Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, and Tom, who has mistakenly been given a full knighthood, instead of an honorary one, are busy keeping secrets, but secrets have a way of revealing themselves. A death near the village raises enough questions to pique Evie’s and Tom’s interest and trigger their suspicions. The news has left everyone shaken, but one of them might actually be pretending. The police think it was a robbery gone wrong. Yet, the more Evie and Tom delve into the victim’s life, the more they realize not all is as it seems.

19. Murder in the Chapel

Finally, they are getting married and everyone is thrilled and eagerly awaiting the day to celebrate the long awaited nuptials. While they play host to wedding guests arriving from near and far, they each deal with their wedding jitters, even though they know nothing and no one will stand in their way. … anyone present who knows a reason why these persons may not lawfully marry… If anything can interfere with their wedding plans it is bound to be something quite ominous. Something along the lines of a dead body discovered in the crypt inside the Woodridge family chapel where Tom and Evie have been practicing the wedding ceremony. A body with a gunshot wound to the heart. The weapon is found and provides unquestionable proof of guilt. The Countess of Woodridge’s guilt.

20. Murder by the Book

20. Murder by the Book - Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, has her first official case as a married woman. Her business partner, Lotte Mannering, has received an anonymous letter claiming the recently deceased Lord Benning was murdered and his widow, Lady Benning, is responsible not only for his death but also for the death of his first wife. Evie and Tom are both eager to investigate the matter as it means traveling to the north of England and leaving behind their visiting relatives as well as the mayhem reigning over Halton House. At least the dowagers, Henrietta and Sara, and Toodles, Evie’s grandmother, have other business to attend to, or so they claim. With their investigation underway, Evie and Tom are surprised to find a great number of people claiming to have witnessed altercations between the couple and to say the marriage had been doomed from the beginning. As they draw closer to the truth, they realize all is not as it seems. To make matters worse, lives are put at risk when a couple of sleuths turn up with the intention of beating Evie and Tom to the truth and only end up getting in the way of the killer.

21. Murder by the Holly

21. Murder by the Holly - It’s a special Christmas at Halton House. The Winchester clan has congregated in full force and Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, is busy keeping Tom's wayward relatives in line, but it seems impossible to herd them into a corner and maintain a sense of calm and order. Evie expects trouble to break out at any moment, and when it does, she’s right in the thick of it. However, finding a body by the holly tree is the least of her concerns. It seems every Winchester in residence had reason to want to see the man dead.

22. Murder on Target

22. Murder on Target - Evie and Tom have received a call for help from Lotte Mannering, the lady detective of many disguises. Lotte has been engaged to keep Miss Cornelia Hansen, heiress to a vast fortune, safe during a weekend house party. With more guests arriving at Rosendale Hall, Miss Cornelia’s residence, Lotte is struggling to keep track of anyone and everyone who looks suspicious. Matters are made worse when Miss Cornelia receives another death threat. Someone is prepared to go to great lengths to stop her from meeting a prospective husband. When one of the guests turns up dead, they know there’s a killer with serious intentions and they’re not afraid to keep trying as someone else suffers a serious injury clearly intended to be fatal. Evie and Tom rely on Lotte to employ her many disguises to dig up the information they need to identify the killer. They’re not exactly short of assistance as Millicent, Tom’s cousins, the dowagers, and Toodles join in the hunt. It seems they are now all in the sleuthing business. However, even with so many sharp-eyed observers, they all seem to miss something obvious, and by the time they realize this, it might be too late.
