đź“® Tales of the Brotherhood (03-04) by James Mercer (.ePUB)

James Mercer was born in Brunei, 1984. His father was a British Army officer and mother a journalist. He spent the early years of his childhood living in Borneo, India and Germany until his family returned to the UK. In his early teens he moved to the medieval city of Salisbury, Wiltshire. As a young man, James was always fascinated by history, especially the Middle Ages with its rich array of legends, characters, and plots. His vivid imagination was fed by Salisbury's rich historical past and after countless visits to its Cathedral over the years and the ruins of Old Sarum Castle, he was inspired to write his first novel 'The Crusaders Blade', the first of a trilogy which follows the historical events of the Fourth Crusade. His love of travelling has taken him to many places across the world. Several of which he has included in his books. When he is not writing, he is often planning his next adventure which can vary from trekking to the summit of Kilimanjaro to walking Hadrian's Wall from coast to coast.

03 The Crusader's Escape

03 The Crusader's Escape 1214. King John Plantagenet of England has failed in his final attempt to win back the lost territories of the Angevin Empire. Arriving back on English shores after his defeat at the Battle of Bouvines forced him to abandon his campaign, he discovers that the northern barons are close to rebellion. In the midst of this turmoil, Sir Robert Spurling, Knight of the Turin Shroud Brotherhood, has received word that his friend and mentor, Commander Reynard, is missing. With the help of loyal and trusted friends he must journey to the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire to find the Commander, before their deadly enemies, followers of the Order of the Blooded Cross, reach him first. Returning to his homeland, Robert discovers that war between the northern barons and King John has begun, and England is engulfed in Civil War. Sir Robert must decide where his loyalties lie, to the crown and John 'Softsword', or to the rebel barons who claim they are fighting for the people. As well as the escapades undertaken by Robert and Commander Reynard, The Crusader's Escape gives a fascinating account of the backstory to one of the most important documents in history - the great charter still known to this day as Magna Carta.

04 The Crusader's Glory

04 The Crusader's Glory 1216. The civil war between the barons and King John Softsword has torn apart the kingdom that was England. While John and his army of foreign mercenaries pursue King Alexander back north to Scotland, destroying and plundering as they go, the rebel barons have built a new alliance and shockingly offered the throne to another. Fearing excommunication, King Philip Augustus of France will not participate in the chaos across the channel. However, his son and heir, Prince Louis, of House Capet, tired of living in his father’s shadow, accepts the proposition by the rebel barons and prepares his campaign to take the English throne and destroy the Plantagenet bloodline for good. Afraid and ill-prepared, John Softsword turns to the man known to many as the true protector of the realm and the greatest knight in all the land, Sir William Marshal. Amongst the earl’s small collection of loyalist allies are Sir Robert of Spurling and the Commander Reynard Sancerre, knights of The Brotherhood of the Sacred Shroud, who have agreed to stand with Marshal against the French assailants. However, within the invading army of Louis, the merciless Order of the Blooded Cross and its Grand Master lie in wait, willing to do anything to get the power and influence they desperately desire. As well as the rip-roaring adventures of Robert and Commander Reynard, The Crusader’s Glory gives a detailed and accurate account of the events during the First Barons rebellion. Starting with the landing of Louis Capet and his army, the action moves to the indomitable royal strongholds of Dover and Lincoln, the Battle of Lincoln Fair, and the naval Battle of the Dover Straight.
