đź“® The Niccolo Benedetti Mysteries by William L DeAndrea (.ePUB)

William L. DeAndrea was an American mystery writer and columnist. He won three Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America, the first for his first novel, Killed in the Ratings. The majority of his novels made up several series. The Matt Cobb mysteries drew on DeAndrea's experience working for a major American television network. The Niccolo Benedetti mysteries paid homage to great detectives such as Nero Wolfe. (DeAndrea was an active member of the Wolfe Pack when he lived in New York.) The Clifford Driscoll series ventured into the realm of the spy thriller, while the Lobo Blacke/Quinn Booker series of historical mysteries were set in the old West. DeAndrea was born in New York and educated at Syracuse University. During the 1980s his job took him to Europe, first to Paris and then London. On his return to the USA he lived in Litchfield County, Connecticut. DeAndrea was also the author of the J'Accuse! column in the Armchair Detective, a fanzine published by Mysterious Press. He won his third Edgar in 1994 for his reference work, Encyclopedia Mysteriosa. He was married to mystery writer Jane Haddam.

1. The Hog Murders

1. The Hog Murders In the Edgar Award–winning first title of the Niccolo Benedetti series, the celebrated detective hunts a serial killer who is terrorizing a small townIn the upstate New York town of Sparta, six people die in three weeks. At first the incidents seem accidental: A highway sign drops onto a car full of teenage girls, an old man falls down a set of stairs, and a boy is struck by a sheet of ice that had been building on his garage. But after each case a note turns up. Someone called Hog claims responsibility for each death, and taunts the police to catch him before he strikes again. The deaths have everybody talking, and the local police department is eventually forced to share the case with famous Italian detective Niccolo Benedetti and his prot, would-be cop turned private investigator Ron Gresham. A painter, ladies' man, and rule-bending genius, Benedetti views every case as a chance to probe the nature of evil. And with his analyse and imagine method, he'll pursue the killer both to stop him and to study him.

2. The Werewolf Murders

2. The Werewolf Murders Master detective Niccolo Benedetti hunts down a killer in the French Alps. Niccolo Benedetti is many things: a professor, philosopher, painter, charmer, and a sterling, world-class detective, too. For Benedetti, a murder is not just a crime, but also a means of dissecting the nature of evil. It’s a problem demanding as much art as it does science. In this second instalment in the Benedetti series, the detective travels to a ski resort in the French Alps, where a conference of international scientists is rocked by a series of killings. To make matters worse the prefect of police is also targeted, endangering the whole future of the conference, and the scientists claim that the perpetrator is nothing less than an honest-to-God, full moon–intoxicated werewolf. Together with sidekicks Ron Gentry and Janet Higgins, Benedetti will have to dive head-first into this supposedly supernatural case.

3. The Manx Murders

3. The Manx Murders In his lifelong study of the nature and causes of human evil, Professor Niccolo Benedetti does not concern himself with trifles. So when the U.S. government wants him to resolve a feud between elderly twin millionaires, he refuses - at first. He thinks the bird-loving Clyde and cat-loving Henry are two simpletons quite unworthy of his sophisticated talents. He becomes intrigued, however, when he learns that, by mysterious means, all the birds have inexplicably vanished from Clyde's nature preserve. Benedetti arrives ready to investigate, along with his married assistants, private eye Ron Gentry and psychologist Janet Higgins. He immediately finds himself enveloped in a tangled web of obstacles, including an ambitious government official, a kidnapping, a particularly sadistic murder, and a unique witness. Soon he is surrounded by evil complex enough to tax even his own remarkable skills. The Manx Murders is the third in the Edgar Award-winning series featuring Professor Benedetti, which began with The HOG Murders and The Werewolf Murders.
