1. Head for Murder

1. Head for Murder - Head Rock Harbor Books in the small river town of Head Rock Harbor sees its share of drama. Usually, because Jackson Harper’s cat, Rattlesnatches, can’t give up his street cat ways and constantly–though, accidentally–terrorizes customers. However, for all of his trying, even Rattlesnatches can’t stir up enough trouble to make Head Rock Harbor all that interesting. As a river town, Head Rock Harbor has plenty of shopping, eateries, and festivals for all the major holidays for tourists to enjoy. Still, Head Rock Harbor essentially invented small-town living. So, when Prescott Pemberton–a local artist who made it big in New York City before moving back to Head Rock Harbor–is found dead in the harbor, it’s tragic, but no one suspects foul play. However, when it becomes clear that several people in town might have benefited from his death, questions arise. Was this death by misadventure…or was Prescott murdered? Jackson’s shop is the center of daily gossip, and he hears plenty of whispers surrounding Prescott’s death. He’s concerned that the citizens of Head Rock Harbor are merely stirring up drama, but he’s also concerned that his best friend, Detective Jeremy Morris, isn’t taking Prescott’s death seriously enough. Jackson’s mother–who owns the local trailer park and Harper’s Bar, Grill, Bait & Tackle–tells him to mind his business. Jackson has spent his whole life not listening to his mother. So, what else can he do but check into the gossip swirling around town? But with his best friend, the police chief, and the mayor and her husband ignoring any evidence he uncovers, Jackson finds his only ally is Rattlesnatches. Hopefully, curiosity doesn’t get the cat killed…

2. Murder in the Rough

2. Murder in the Rough - It’s not that finding dead bodies is uncommon in Head Rock Harbor, Jackson Harper simply didn’t expect to find one when out for a day on the Mississippi with Sawyer Robinson. While out looking for illegal trotlines, Jackson and Sawyer find the body of a man by a campsite, dead from an apparent shotgun blast to the chest. After a brief investigation and the arrest of a notorious Head Rock Harbor resident, Chief Bucksworth is happy to close the investigation. However, Detective Jeremy Morrison isn’t so sure that his boss has the town’s best interests at heart. As always, Jackson is suspicious of any crime in Head Rock Harbor and can’t keep his nose out of police business. He has no solid evidence, but something simply doesn’t feel right about the crime scene. He busies himself taking casseroles to the mourning family, questioning witnesses, and even fighting the police chief when the wrong suspect is arrested. When Jeremy decides that he has no one on his side at the police department, he goes against his own protocol and asks Jackson for help. Together, the two of them will find out if they are simply paranoid—or there’s a killer with a shotgun loose in their quaint little riverside town. Rattlesnatches’ new obsession might be the clue that unravels the entire mystery…

3. Pride and Puncture

3. Pride and Puncture - Pride has come to Head Rock Harbor, and along with it, tons of tourists. Under the guidance and leadership of the town’s favorite bookstore owner, Jackson Harper, everyone is getting ready. The first ever Pride weekend will be full of events, food, and, of course, a parade. Even though he has plenty on his plate, Jackson is (begrudgingly) happy to spearhead the historic event for his hometown. If all the older folks in town weren’t fussing about the influx of out-of-towners, everything would be perfect. As if being overwhelmed by tourists isn’t enough, some people in town are grumbling about the new couple who bought Ona Evans’ old place to renovate. To make matters worse, they’ve also purchased The Downtown Theater to renovate, rebranding it “Harbor Stage.” Jackson can’t find time to worry too much over everyone’s opinions about progress since he is also making some changes to Head Rock Harbor Books. He also owes a certain forensic tech a date and has a high-strung, arrogant gay author coming to speak at his bookstore during Pride weekend. Rattlesnatches is making everything difficult with his new obsession of knocking books off shelves in the store. Right as things are ramping up for Pride, a body is found under an umbrella on the sandbar by The Dock restaurant. Deeply unsettled by the circumstances of the killing and the appearance of the body, Jackson isn’t so sure that going forward with Pride is the best course of action. But the mayor and police chief won’t hear anything about cancelling the event. However, when it becomes clear that the killer has one more victim in mind, Jackson becomes concerned for his safety. Is there anyone in Head Rock Harbor he can truly trust?
