đź“® 5 Pride and Prejudice Variations by Regina Velarde (.ePUB)

I began writing when I was twelve, after reading a book called “Harriet the Spy.” Harriet had a diary and I decided to start one as well. Now I have over sixty diaries and everything I ever wrote in them has helped me write my books. I began reading when I was four and have been addicted to it ever since. I particularly love books where you can re-read certain sections over and over again, because they’re so amusing, or touching. So, I have written my books with this in mind. I noticed that when I only wrote what I liked to read, it turned out so much better. So now I only write scenes that engross me, glossing over everything else. If I didn’t need to eat, sleep and work, I would probably write, and read, all the time.

Darcy's Flight from Rosings: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Darcy's Flight from Rosings: A Pride and Prejudice Variation After being harshly rejected by Elizabeth, Darcy Flees Rosings with a broken heart but attempts to right his wrongs in London. But before he can do this, he must first visit, and flirt with, Caroline Bingley in order to get the Gardiners’ address and confess his sins to Jane Bennet. Colonel Fitzwilliam stays at Rosings and falls in love with Anne de Bourgh who finally stands up to her mother and states she will not marry Darcy. Elizabeth stays in Kent, befriends Anne, and slowly becomes convinced that there was more to Darcy than she thought at first. In fact, the more she hears about Darcy from his two cousins, the more she starts to regret her decision not to marry him. But can she convince him of her changed opinion? This Pride and Prejudice variation is full of both humor and angst and will take the reader through a range of emotions as the characters navigate their way through one misunderstanding after another.

Diana Fitzwilliam: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Diana Fitzwilliam: A Pride and Prejudice Variation In this role-reversal version of Pride and Prejudice, Lady Diana Fitzwilliam, the tall, raven-haired daughter of the Earl of Matlock is also the mistress of Pemberley (which she inherits from the childless Darcys.) Sensitive and intelligent, but socially awkward, Diana finds it hard to participate in society's events, often donning a mask of haughtiness and indifference. However, one day, she travels to Netherfield with her good friend, Sarah Bingley (and Sarah’s sister and brother, the Hursts) and there meets the second son of a local squire, Captain Peter Bennet of the Royal Navy. She inadvertently insults him at a local assembly and is immediately remorseful. Over time she begins to fall in love with him, but is unable to completely trust him after having once been duped by the fortune-hunter, George Wickham. In fact, after almost eloping with Wickham, Diana vows she will only marry a man who is her social equal. This is the story of the beautiful Diana Fitzwilliam and the naval captain whom she loves. Will Diana open her heart again to a mere second son of a minor estate owner? Or will she spend the rest of her days, alone at Pemberley, having nothing but her memories to sustain her? 3

Elizabeth and Jane: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Elizabeth and Jane: A Pride and Prejudice Variation The story begins at Longbourn where Elizabeth, Jane and their father now live quietly after the rest of the family are killed in a carriage accident. Mr. Bennet spends his days staring vacantly out the window, while his two remaining daughters run the estate. Then one day Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley return to pay their condolences. Elizabeth vacillates between regret at how callously she treated Darcy during his proposal, and anger over how he insulted her family even as he declared his love. Jane, on the other hand, is more realistic in her views of people but is uncertain if she can risk giving her heart away again. Darcy tries valiantly to be more amiable to everyone in the neighborhood, while Bingley attempts to show Jane his newfound strength and ability to resist his sister's machinations. Caroline Bingley also returns and attempts to turn her brother away from Jane, while Wickham comes back with the regiment and becomes angry that Elizabeth no longer believes his lies. Mr. Bennet finally starts to shed his lassitude, eventually becoming more like the father he should have been in the first place. In the midst of all of this are two young women from Plymouth, Mrs. Long’s nieces, who feel that they now hold the hearts of the two gentlemen. This P&P variation centers on the principal characters - their struggles to change, to overcome their weaknesses, and attempt to become the best versions of themselves. 4

Despised: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Despised: A Pride and Prejudice Variation Elizabeth Bennet goes to Netherfield to care for her sister and, while there, is treated with such contempt by its occupants that the only way she can find respite is by spending time in a small reading room with a fine collection of books. One night she goes there and is surprised to find Darcy in the room as well. Eventually she discovers that it is not a reading room at all but his sitting room. She is just about to leave when a maid walks in and catches them together. Two weeks later they are married and on their way to Pemberley. Darcy, whose attraction to Elizabeth had been slowly growing, now finds he cannot respect her, believing she purposely staged the compromise. Elizabeth, on the other hand, remains disgusted by Darcy’s coldness and arrogance, and is devastated that she must now spend the rest of her life with the one man she hates above all others. They arrive at Pemberley and Elizabeth comes to find that the entire household is against her, all believing that she trapped their master into marriage. But nevertheless, she attempts to establish some accord with both the staff and her ever moody husband. And, in spite of himself, Darcy cannot help but admire Elizabeth, and over time begins to realise that his admiration may be turning…into love. 5

Angel of the Morning: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Angel of the Morning: A Pride and Prejudice Variation In the year 1809, an eighteen year old girl travels to Scotland with her aunt and uncle and meets a young man at a bridge overlooking a river. They talk about their hopes for the future and the things they wish to do. The conversation is unique and memorable but only lasts for half an hour. At the end of it, the girl leaves and neither ever knows anything about the other except the middle names of each. Months later, they both become engaged to other people at the request of their fathers. One year after that, they encounter each other for the second time - in a field of wildflowers in Derbyshire. So happy to be in one another’s company once more, they trek through the woods together but get caught in the rain and eventually spend the night in a hunting lodge. Despite the intensity of their love, they part ways again, because she is now engaged to her cousin William (the parson of Hunsford) and he is now engaged to his cousin Anne (the heiress of Rosings.) In the fall of 1811, they meet for the third time at an assembly in Meryton. And she is finally introduced to him as Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourn, while he is introduced to her as Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley. They dance together, ecstatic to be once more in each other’s company. But their happiness is short-lived because, despite now knowing who the other is, they are still betrothed to other people and realise that they can never be together. This stirring Pride and Prejudice variation revolves around the unfulfilled love between two people who choose to do their duty but cannot help but give in, occasionally, to the temptation of being together.
